Dr. Arup Ratan Dutta is a renowned physician in the field of Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation. He has more than 25 years of experience and is currently the Chief Nephrologist at Fortis Hospitals, Kolkata.Dr. Dutta has been an instrumental person in bringing and practicing new technology like Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis, CRRT and Plasmapheresis in the region. Quality of dialysis has been his focus and he is credited to be having many patients on long term (10 – 12 years) dialysis.After completing MBBS he joined the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh from where he obtained MD(Medicine) and DM (Nephrology) degrees in 1986 and 1989 respectively. He has held the several positions in the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN) including that of Scientific Committee member and Zonal representative and Secretary of the Eastern Zone. He is one of the founder members of the Peritoneal Dialysis society of India (PDSI) and served as President.He has achieved excellent results in kidney transplantation comparable with international standards. He has a large experience in spousal donor transplantation and Induction immune-suppression.He was the recipient of ‘Young Asia Investigator’ award at the International Society for Peritoneal dialysis conference at Seoul, Korea in 1998. He also did a visiting fellowship in Toronto Hospitals, Canada.
