Ayurveda Treatment for Head Injury Rehabilitation

Head injury refers to any sort of injury related to your brain, skull or scalp. A head injury can range from mild to severe traumatic brain injury depending on the types and the cause of the injury. Mild injury can include headache, cuts, swelling, and bruises, but on the other hand, a severe head injury can lead to mental impairment, profuse bleeding, permanent disability, traumatic brain injury, or even death. There are many contemporary medications and surgery which can make the situation better, still, many people used to opt for Ayurveda treatment of traumatic head injury for complete cure and safety.

Causes of a Head Injury

  •       Vehicle accident
  •       Stroke or sudden attack
  •       Falls
  •       Physical assault
  •       Sports-related injuries

Symptoms of a Head Injury

  •       Headache
  •       Nausea
  •       Temporary loss of hearing
  •       Mild confusion
  •       Light-headedness

Types of Head Injuries

  • Hematoma: A hematoma is the clotting of blood outside your blood vessel. A hematoma can occur in your brain which can lead to permanent brain damage.
  • Haemorrhage: A haemorrhage is uncontrolled bleeding that can take place around or within your brain. Haemorrhages can cause vomiting and headache, but they can often lead to permanent brain damage.
  • Skull Fracture: A skull doesn’t have bone marrow and that’s why it is very robust and difficult to break. A broken skull can lead to permanent damage to your brain.
  • Oedema: Any brain injury can lead to swelling of the surrounding tissues or oedema.
  • Diffuse Axonal Injury: A shear injury or diffuse axonal injury is a type of injury to the brain which doesn’t cause bleeding but causes damage to the brain cells. These damaged brain cells can’t function properly and thus, resulting in swelling and more damage.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Traumatic Head Injury

Several ayurvedic treatments are prescribed by the ayurvedic doctors to overcome your head injury.

  • Bacopa monniera (Brahmi) has been used in Ayurvedic therapy as a brain tonic to improve memory, concentration, and learning capacity. The antioxidant property of Bacopa improves the cognitive functions of the patients.
  • A healthy diet is also prescribed for the optimal immune system and overall health.
  • Patients are often recommended yoga, meditation, and pranayama to practice every day to improve their concentration. Yoga and meditation also sync your mind, body, and spirit optimally.
